I guess there are two basic ways of getting things done -- the all-out effort, or the minimalist baby-step approach. I'm going to try baby stepping my way into higher paying work.
So -- I'm just writing this here in the hope that a public statement will help keep me on track -- starting on Monday, I'm going to do something every day (five days per week) that may be very small, but will move me, if only a bit, in the direction of direct no-content-site-and-no-middleman writing.

Hi, With your blog reference, I tried constant content, they did not accept me. Demand studios is still pending. Media piston did not work out for me. Clowdcrowd I'm yet to be qualified - on the 14-day compulsory break :-) Textbroker is working out for me, I submitted 5th article and waiting for the level-review. How do you plan to do the baby-step approach? Why don't you plan your own website? I have such plans in my mind, not now, but after some time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the sites you're still waiting to hear from.
DeleteI don't have a specific plan for the baby steps. There are really only two basic things I need to do to get writing work -- (1) find people who are publishing the kinds of things I want to write, and (2) convince them that I am the best person (or among the best) to write them. Within those two things are a lot of details, and it's all easier said than done. ;-) But I think that as long as I stay focused -- especially when running up against tasks that cause me varying levels of anxiety -- I should be okay. That's what the baby steps are for. Just to keep moving in the right direction, to counteract my tendency to drop things when I hit rough patches.
As for planning my own website, do you mean a portfolio site (so I can give a link to show potential customers) or my own content site? I do want to take (baby!) steps toward putting a portfolio site together, but don't want to create my own content site. I have three blogs now (including this one), and that may already be two too many. ;-) Seriously, I don't think I could take on another site right now (except for the portfolio site).
